Boonville to Jefferson City: You’ll begin your adventure in Boonville, a scenic river town full of character and history. Before leaving Boonville, consider a stop at the Boonville Bridge, or stop at the Visitor Center and check out the Rivers, Rails, and Trails Museum.
Just a few miles from Boonville, you'll find New Franklin and the original site of Franklin, the starting point of the Santa Fe Trail. While in New Franklin, spend some time at the Sante Fe Trail Marker monument and the Katy Trail caboose that sits nearby.
Often voted one of the most beautiful stops on the Katy Trail, Rocheport is a must-see. Stop for a photo at the Rocheport Tunnel, carved through a limestone bluff. You might also choose to take a short hike up the Diana Bend Conservation Area for some sights and sounds of nature. Consider a stop at the Meriwether Cafe, right along the trail, a cool spot to sit, sip, and watch cyclists pass by along the trail.
Near McBaine, you’ll find Missouri’s largest Burr Oak tree, over 350 years old. Keep an eye on the skies. This area is known for bald eagle sightings!
Your ride wraps up in Jefferson City, the state capital, located just across the Missouri River from the Katy Trail via a scenic bike-friendly bridge. There, you’ll find lots to do, including a wealth of Missouri history. The Missouri State Capitol offers a museum as well as free tours. But simply walking through this building includes stunning views of murals and architecture. If you have time, book a tour of the Missouri State Penitentiary, a fascinating (and spooky) piece of state history! And don’t leave Jefferson City without stopping at Central Dairy for a scoop - or three!
